General Admission Survey

There has been much speculation on social media about the possible introduction of General Admission areas to the supporters end of BC Place. Some of you have also received an e-mail from the Whitecaps seeking your feedback on a scenario in which all seats in the “White” price tier would be reclassified as GA.

This seems like a good time to set the record straight.

We can confirm that the Vancouver Southsiders executive board and representatives from Curva Collective are working together to explore the feasibility of creating a GA section (or sections) in the supporters end from existing seating areas at BC Place, or possibly by adding new ones. We have not submitted any proposals to the Whitecaps yet, though we hope to at some point in the future after hearing from our membership.

We recognize there are many different ways which GA could be implemented. The size, location and right of access to any new GA section are huge factors that need to be thoroughly researched. The impacts on our members, both positive and negative, also need to be considered very carefully. Any changes to the status quo would also require the endorsement of the Whitecaps front office.

This survey (which is not the same as the one sent out by the Whitecaps) provides you with an important opportunity to share your thoughts, concerns and feedback before we proceed any further. As a current (or recent) Southsiders member your voice deserves to be heard. Please spare a few minutes of your time to help us understand what works best for you.

Join the Vancouver Southsiders for their official #CapsOnTV and #KrisOnTour away viewing party as the Caps visit Houston Dynamo!

Kick off is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Plan to get to Doolin’s Irish Pub early as downtown Vancouver will be VERY busy with the U2 concert happening at BC Place that night. The Back Bar will be reserved for Southsiders. Food and drink specials TBA.

Membership packages can be picked up or purchased BY REQUEST ONLY any time between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Please email Aaryn at membership@vancouversouthsiders.ca to arrange for pick up.

Join the Vancouver Southsiders this Friday for their Cinco de Mayo official away viewing party as the Whitecaps visit Colorado to face the Rapids!

Party starts at 6pm in the Back Bar at Doolin’s, and the match kicks off at 7pm. There will be some fun Cinco de Mayo food & drink specials so keep your eyes open to this page for updates throughout the week!

Membership and merchandise will be available BY REQUEST only!

Get Stuck In With Our Southsiders Sweepstakes!

Those of you who have been with us for a while know that the Vancouver Southsiders try to give back to our community by supporting meaningful charitable initiatives.

Our latest fundraising project comes in the form of a raffle with some great prizes:

First Prize: An autographed VWFC jersey (size medium) signed by none other than Fredy Montero himself! This will look great whether you are wearing it on our March To The Match, or displaying it on the wall of your home or office. You may also want to consider hanging it from the rafters of a certain supporters bar in Seattle, as it will match nicely with the #CapsOnTour sign they stole from one of our buses. No worries – they kept the sign, but we kept the points.

Second Prize: A pair of tickets in the Southside (Section 252 Row G) for our first ever home match against Atlanta United on Saturday June 3!

Third Prize: A once in a lifetime romantic railway adventure to see the Cascadian mountain range! Disclaimer: This *might* just mean SkyTrain tickets from Waterfront to King George and back, but still!

You can also buy tickets in person with cash at Doolin’s during our April 22 #CapsOnTV event for the Portland away match.This date coincides with our Freedom & Cookies For All upstairs / downstairs party which is going to be a full afternoon of awesomeness. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10.  We will hold the draw immediately following the Portland match.

You do not need to be present on April 22 to claim your prize (though it would be great if you were). Hope you heard that, out of towners! April 22: Freedom & Cookies For All!

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, shall we? This Saturday, the Whitecaps will be heading to Portland to take on the Timbers in our second Cascadia Cup match of the season. It’s a massive match, and our away days bus trips to PDX are the stuff of legend. There is nowhere else we would rather be.

Unfortunately, we’re giving Uncle Sam and “American freedom” a hard pass this year.

As you know, the Southsiders aren’t organizing any away trips to the Unites States this year due to recent developments at the border. Many of us have been impacted by the uncertainty that comes along with traveling to the US. Some of us are staying home by choice, and some of us are staying home because the personal implications are very, very serious. Either way, #CapsOnTour bus trips to the US are on hiatus until further notice, because standing in solidarity with our members is the right thing to do.

We are not alone in this decision. The Girl Guides of Canada have also taken a stand in support of their members, just as we did.

When young people show this kind of awareness and leadership in our community, we think that’s something which should be recognized and celebrated. That’s why on Saturday, the Vancouver Southsiders are pairing with Girl Guides of Canada, specifically the 124th Vancouver Brownies, to bring you our “Freedom & Cookies For ALL!” upstairs / downstairs party.

 

DOWNSTAIRS: The Belmont will be open as an all-ages, family friendly venue from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. Here’s what’s happening:

  • We’ll have the #CapsOnTV, so we encourage all of our members who are parents to bring their young’ uns  to watch the game with us. Kickoff is 1:00 pm!
  • The Brownies will be selling their delicious boxes of Girl Guide cookies from 12 pm to 3 pm. Make sure you bring some cash! Cookie coma to follow.
  • Kids tifo-making contest! We’ll provide the paper and supplies. The Southsiders will reproduce the winning creation into a railing banner that we will display at BC Place for the rest of the season.
  • Stay tuned to our Facebook events page for updates!

 

UPSTAIRS: Doolin’s Irish Pub is for members and guests who are 19+.

  • We’ll have the #CapsOnTV for the big kids.
  • Cask battle between two local breweries! First brewery to empty their cask wins and will be next month’s guest tap at Doolin’s!

Our supporters group was founded on the principles of inclusivity, acceptance and respect for all who sought to stand with us. Since our earliest days we have stood for equality, and we have spoken out against racism and bigotry. We have always strived to be the place where everyone feels welcome. We are the place where everyone belongs.

Get down to Doolin’s and the Belmont early, this party is not one to be missed! This Saturday is about more than football. It’s about celebrating our members and coming together to support not only our boys in Blue & White, but to support each other. #WBWW #BetterSupporters Oh, and three points!

DERBY DAY! Cascadia Cup Match #1

Our first  Cascadia Cup match of 2017 is upon us! And what better way to celebrate a holiday Friday than cheering our boys in Blue and White on to victory?!

The Seattle Sounders visit the reigning Kings of Cascadia at BC Place on Friday April 14th and there’s no place we’d rather be!

Join the Vancouver Southsiders for the pre-match festivities at Doolin’s starting at 4pm! There will be beer, food, and MEMBERSHIP CARDS (yes, they are finally here)!

Our membership table opens at 4pm. Our merchandise table will be open too –  hours TBA.

This limited edition Kings Of Cascadia design you see here will be available in all adult sizes in men’s and women’s cuts. It’s just $20, which works out to 12% of the cost of a VWFC triangle jersey. The Whitecaps VERY condensed week of fixtures comes to a close on Saturday April 8th as they head to Real Salt Lake.

The official Southsiders away viewing party will kick off early and include the WFC2 match at 3 pm as well as the RSL match at 6:30 pm.

Come on down to Doolin’s, grab yourself a seat and get ready for Super Sportz Saturday!

For those of you heading out to Langley for the WFC2 “home” opener, we’ll save you a spot at Doolin’s for the Caps’ KO!

BURN YOUR BILL will be in effect so make sure you’re ordering off the Southsiders’ special menu and maybe you will be the lucky one having Doolin’s pick up your tab on Saturday evening!

Thank you very much to Doolin’s for acknowledging the importance of our partnership, and for making us feel right at home, day in and day out. This letter was a very classy way to respond to some recent concerns. The gesture is sincerely appreciated.
