MLS Round 16: Toronto FC

Home Game Day Info

Friday, May 31st, Kickoff 7:00pm

Last Saturday gave us some fabulous goals, including this goal of the week nominated effort from Ali “Please Don’t Go” Adnan. Watch it. Watch it again.

Don’t forget the nutmeg

This Friday is a bit of a special event. The Whitecaps have brought in as many of the 1979 Soccer Bowl winning team as they could to have a special commemoration of their victory 40 years ago.

Be in your seats early (the club told us to ask for 6:45pm) as there will be a special ceremony with members of the 1979 team, and a Ring of Honour induction for former coach Tony Waiters. If you want an opportunity to mingle with the team after the match, check out the details here:
https://www.whitecapsfc.com/post/2019/05/29/match-40th-anniversary-celebrations.

As for facing Toronto: No one likes The FCs. They’ve also been on an awful run of form lately. Hopefully the Caps can keep that awfulness going and hand them another loss, amirite?!?

Updates from Ciara McCormack and the Whitecaps

If you haven’t seen these yet, please take the time to read each of them.

Ciara McCormack released a blog post on Monday morning, talking about a meeting that took place between former players & Whitecaps ownership:
https://ciaramccormack.com/2019/05/27/3-months-after-the-blog-a-meeting-with-whitecaps-owners-a-massive-thank-you/

The Whitecaps also released a detailed announcement of the independent review they are commissioning:
https://www.whitecapsfc.com/post/2019/05/27/whitecaps-fc-retains-nationally-recognized-sport-management-group

The walkout protests, media scrutiny and demands for action from the former players, fans & supporters have led us to this point. There is obviously much work remaining to be done. If you have any information you think would be pertinent to the review, or concerns that you hope the review will address, please make sure to note the statement at the bottom of the Whitecaps announcement and contact SLSG at safesport@sportlaw.ca.

Don’t forget to #shineALight35

We will be continuing to “shine a light” during the 35th minute of home matches. See our previous post for more information:
